"Wrestlers Begin Hunt for NCAA Title Tonight" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-23 12:51:22

“The match means a lot,” said junior Jordan Leen. “Especially to all of our coaches who have never beaten Wisconsin before. And for a lot of us too; it is time for us to start competing again.” One of the most anticipated matches is at 157 pounds between Leen and No. 1 ranked Craig Henning. Leen — who is ranked No. 7 at 149 pounds after earning the EIWA championship and All-American honors last year at that weight class — has moved up to 157 start the 2007-08 season. “It should be a very exciting because we are both scramblers,” he said. “We are both tall and lanky and like to take a lot of chances. It should be fun coming in as an underdog to Henning and have an opportunity to upset him in front of a big home crowd; I’m ready to rock.” Other key starters who have moved up a weight class are sophomore Adam Frey and junior Steve Anceravage. Frey the returning Ivy League Rookie of the Year and NCAA tournament qualifier is ranked No. 10 at 133 pounds but will square off against Wisconsin’s Kendall Vogel tonight at 141 pounds. Anceravage was an EIWA champion. NCAA qualifier and ranked No. 5 at 165 pounds but will be wrestling Matt Maciag at 174 pounds tonight. “[Moving up] is just the best thing for our bodies right now,” Leen said. “We will be feeling bigger stronger and healthier as we gear towards the NCAA championships. It’s a new challenge for us.” With injuries to All-American juniors Troy Nickerson — who placed third at 125 at last year’s NCAA tournament — and Josh Arnone at 184 many newcomers will make their first starts for the Red. “[Senior] Zach Hammond is the only starter on the team who is not a brand new face or wrestling at a new weight class,” Leen said. “Nine guys are treading new water in this match.” As a result head coach Rob Koll’s highly touted freshman class will have the opportunity to immediately make an impact. Four-time New Jersey state champion Mike Grey will start at 133. 2006 New Jersey state champion Frank Perrelli will fill in for Nickerson at 125 and four-time Maryland state champ Mack Lewnes will get the nod at 165. “[The freshmen] are phenomenal their results speak for themselves,” Leen said. “I was impressed how mature they wrestle for freshmen; they are very composed confident and have a lot of mental toughness out there. They wrestle like they are seniors.” After the dual match with Wisconsin these 10 wrestlers will have little time to recover as they must turn right around and compete in the Body Bar Invitational tomorrow morning. Cornell has won the event each of the past two years and must plow through a deep and talented field to make it three in a row. The field is composed of roughly 10 squads from all over the nation including No. 13 Wisconsin. Pittsburgh. Kent State and Drexel.

"Wrestlers of the WWE unite" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-01 07:29:12

I know I'm not raising a topic that hasn't been debated millions of times since they split the WWE into various brands but given the major improvement over the past weeks of the shows I evaluate it's time to raise it again. Of course I'm speaking about merging the WWE approve into one brand. In order to handle up Survivor Series there has been nonstop go across branding matches on all the programs. This has been great as the shows have not had many matches that were disappointing. Of course it understandable the WWE is going to schedule as many great matches as they can to pump up the buyer rates for the upcoming pay per view but it shows what can be done when you are not handcuffed to only a certain share of talent. As we saw over these past few month how injuries depleted the rosters this can be prevented with an unlimited pool of talent. I'm sure there are certain financial considerations that be to be given to the various brands as Raw most likely commands the most. They can work around this by keeping only the top end of the talent on Raw like keeping the Champion exclusive to Raw only. And since we are discussing championships we should also go back to a unified back. This gets around to keeping the champ exclusive. If there is a need to keep both major championships they can designate the WWE call as a secondary championship. This way the WWE chew can be on the other brands and keep the arouse for both Smack Down and ECW. Of cover this leads us to the topic of ECW. As far as I'm concerned they should just scrap it all together as its own separate division. There is nothing extreme about it anymore and its no exceed than what Heat use to be. The ECW has a few good talented individuals but not enough to demand its own brand. Since they have made contractual obligations for this show they could re brand it like a alter with maybe some established stars thrown in to keep it interesting. This combination will only back up to keep fan interest as it gives the writers more combinations to bring home the bacon with but also keeps the communicate case interesting due to more talent available on each show. By having strong network programs the WWE will help improve its product and create more buzz for its pay per views and helps satisfy fans. Currently there have been to many matches on net work that should be reserved for dark matches and accommodate shows. This is insulting to fans who are willing to spend their time watching this programing. Yes I understand the WWE makes its money by saving the best matches for pay per views but please furnish us something decent to watch on network TV and no more Hacksaw Jim Duggen and Super Crazy tag matches.

"Women wrestlers 'kill' stereotype" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 21:10:44

Posing pretty or sweating on the mat. OCU's women wrestlers have more than just matches to contend out. They are "killing" stereotypes. Freshman Marina Piccolotti said. A recent ad printed in the Nov. 7 air of The Campus as come up as The Oklahoman and a few other media outlets featured the women wrestlers "all dolled up" in semi-formal attire. Often for group photos athletes are in furnish or sporting T-shirts but not the women wrestlers. "It's pointing out that they're different from the norm," said Patricia be biochemistry sophomore. "That it's unexpected that they could be accepted."The women wrestlers and their coach are trying to defeat the cast associated with their sport."It's because there is a stereotype especially in Oklahoma that female wrestlers are more masculine," Piccolotti said. "My coach wants to get rid of that stigma."The women and instruct are trying to get people to see "pretty" women can wrestle."We're ladies off the mat and on the mat we're drink to business," Piccolotti said. Coach Archie Randall said he wants the wrestlers to be seen as they actually are not what they are portrayed as."The concept is that women wrestlers are short stocky guys with bad ears," he said "Expect the unexpected because these women don't look like the norm."The whole idea is that they're women who decide to wrestle."The women's first home be was Saturday against Cumberlands (Ky.). "Smaller wrestlers time to shine is now, says Bullgod" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 13:22:47

We choose things up today with our site’s newest columnist — The Bullgod — pontificating on the state of today’s pro wrestling world lost in a sea of steroid scandals. The hope lies in pushing smaller talented performers however (says Bullgod) comparing the express of today’s mat wars to that of post-1994 WWF — and that era’s steroid scandal. The more things dress the more they stay the same eh? Nontheless as a result of that eat we as fans were treated to headlining performances by the likes of well what is Mr. Mal tellin’ ya about it for? It’s Bullgod’s great column after all — let him tell ya all about it! If ya missed the first half just scroll down or I set a goal of winning the intercontinental call. Sure I dreamed of winning the World Wrestling Federation Championship but 6’1”. 215 pound guys like me didn’t win that title. This was a big man business and I definitely wasn’t a big man”. For me this was the problem with the business before the go period and is the problem with it today as come up as being an indication of why the ‘attitude era’ made wrestling and the WWE so popular. Yes this was the time of the beat writing creatively with new edgy storylines that pushed the boundaries but along align this was the beat group of pure wrestlers to be in or around the main event at any period throughout history. If those write of storylines where added to today’s product they would only be used to build up to the matches that we are currently enduring and no be of Austin-vs-McMahon/original D-Generation X style storylines is going to alter me want to watch Batista contend Khali. The balance needs to be restored and the big guys have to stop being used in a way that makes the smaller more talented guys be weak but as we found out in 1994 its going to take something similar to nearly going to confine for Vince to dress his opinion on what the fans be to see and what’s good for business. I do think something big will happen when this whole wellness/steroid scandal is over and hopefully whatever that is will change the adorn of the business as it did in 1994 because the future could be very very bright for pro wrestling. On its books WWE has a lot of great potential talent in C. M. Punk. Carlito. Colt Cabana. Teddy Hart. Matt Sydal. Elijah Burke and Paul London/Brian Kendrick to label just a few. These smaller and ultra-talented guys may be a little green but with the alter teaching from some of the older workers they undergo the potential to be the next Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart’s. Their styles are new modern and fresh just like Shawn’s and Bret’s where in the mid 90’s by 2010 this could be the new direction of pro wrestling. TNA also has potential and has already tested the water so to speak in terms of the X-Division which many fans ordain say is what put TNA on the map and should be the backbone of the company who all can work. Unfortunately the writing and booking is limiting how many populate adjust in to check these great workers. If TNA takes a new direction from a creative standpoint when they go two hours next month then they could go away to pose a threat to WWE which fingers crossed could in measure resemble something similar to the Monday Night Wars and force WWE to be at its beat. Only time will express but the future is certainly bright let’s just hope the potential isn’t wasted.

"why do pro wrestlers die young?" posted by ~Ray

were i teaching soc of deviance this semester i might build an assignment around paul farhi's fine conjoin on the early deaths of professional wrestlers if you construe closely you'll find a story a biological story a psychological story a masculinities story an institutional story a macro-structural story and a very sad story but this is good journalism as well as good for a sociology assignment as my local dailies have been cutting bone and go across for about a year now i'm all the more appreciative of a well-written and carefully researched feature bind.

"Wrestlers you should know about: Luke Hawx" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 18:30:07

In creating this series one of the first names I wanted to write about is Luke Hawx. Luke Hawx is definitely a wrestler you should experience about. Luke in such a bunco time has wrestled all over the world and has wrestled on television for several of the biggest companies in the pro wrestling industry including World Wrestling Entertainment. Growing up in one of the worst sections of New Orleans. Louisiana for anyone can either end you or alter you. For Luke Hawx growing up in New Orleans and later surviving Hurricane Katrina made him one of the toughest athletes wrestling on the independents today. Luke first caught my attention when he wrestled under the label “Alter Boy Luke” in XPW. I loved his high flying style which was risk taking and death defying. Luke would step into the ring and do things that literally defied all of the laws of gravity. Starting in XPW is a good and bad thing for someone like Luke. As a rookie the exposure in XPW Luke received was something that some wrestlers who undergo been in the business for over 10 years never get. On the other transfer too much success too soon could spoil someone in Luke’s position. When XPW closed. Luke like all of the ex-XPW wrestlers went from full-time wrestling employment to nothing. XPW’s shady reputation throughout the industry would prevent a lot of their talents from getting the chances that they deserved. Luke rose above the negativity and used a go setback as a motivational drive. Luke went approve to basics and wrestled on every independent show he could. He wrestled predominantly in southern California which was a hot bed at one time for indy wrestling. Luke returned to the bring out with a return to the east coast ironically XPW’s chief compete CZW. The Luke that came approve to Philadelphia was quite different than the Luke who measure wrestled in Philadelphia for XPW. Luke had put on quite a bit of muscle gotten himself into cause and dropped the Alter Boy engrave in favor of his natural charisma. In terms of wrestling. Luke toned drink his high flying style which while flashy has a bunco career life in advance of more traditional wrestling relying more on his charisma than falling on his continue. Luke had a vicious series with another former XPW feature. Messiah and the two tore the accommodate down several times in CZW. This is where I first got to announce Luke’s matches. Unfortunately in one of many booking moves that frustrated me in CZW. Luke was pushed as a featured star to being stuck in meaningless six-man tag aggroup matches and then not booked at all. Once again. Luke was at a crossroads. Luke not only landed on his feet but did so in a big way. Luke became a prominent player in the short lived MTV battle Society-X series. Though the show only lasted several weeks. Luke appeared on more of the shows than just about anyone. Not only that the producers of the show saw the talents in Luke and matched him up in the main-events on a regular basis. Following the cancellation of the series. Luke’s talents were noticed once again by a Philadelphia based wrestling affiliate. This time it would be Pro Wrestling Unplugged who would scoop up this great young talent. In between PWU gigs. Luke wrestled for this tiny upstart company called the WWE. Luke went one on one with throw Palumbo on the WWE television show. Smackdown. The be impressed management and WWE staff and officially put Luke on to the radar of WWE talent acquisition. Luke has been a move of PWU for the majority of the year. Not only has Luke been a featured player in PWU he is undefeated in singles competition. Luke has been on an absolute tear going through everyone put in his path. Arguably on several occasions. Luke has stolen the show with his energy flash and style. Luke’s short temper has worked for and against him inside of the squared circle. Luke routinely channels that emotion into some of the most exciting matches on the cards. Unfortunately. Luke’s harden can also get the better of him and act his eye off of the prize. One of the things I really like and consider about him professionally and personally is that he takes no crap from anyone. Luke was also recently featured in the national publication. Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Including a shout out to yours truly the article was a great be at one of pro wrestling’s young up and coming talents. Luke’s biggest evaluate inside of the ring ordain come this Saturday in Philadelphia. PA on PWU’s 3rd Anniversary show. Luke will go one on one with another guy ironically enough I will be spotlighting next in this column. Eddie Kingston. As a fan and friend of both. I am ecstatic about the possibilities that this match brings to PWU. The competition for the winner ordain only change state more difficult as the match will be a part of round 1 of the PWU Television Title Tournament. If you have never seen Luke Hawx you are missing out. He is one hell of an athlete with a dedication to this business back up to none. Luke is the entire package of what a young wrestler should be; charismatic great on the microphone and entertaining in the go. Like him or not. Luke is one of the most entertaining wrestlers wrestling the independent scene today. You can see Luke Hawx in challenge this Saturday 9/15 at the New Alhambra Arena for Pro Wrestling Unplugged’s 3rd Anniversary Show. For more information on this event. Coming next column: “The King of Diamonds” Eddie Kingston. Just for the preserve. I love these introductions to talent I otherwise wouldn’t undergo a clue about. I recommend a Legend forum highlighting someone of the past too or do another one of those greatest feud columns. Meal Replacement Drinks (MRD's) are great for wrestlers. In fact many of the wrestlers and coaches that I consult with are now using them along with their training and finding incredible results on the wrestling mat as a prove. Here are 5 reasons why you might be to consider using them if YOU TOO be to tremendously increase your performance on the wrestling mat:1. MRD's are nutritionally dense. That means that they have a lot of nutrients without giving you a lot of calories. This is great because you can manipulate them with different mixes or foods to the needs of your wrestlers whether they are transport weights or heavier weights. Far too many wrestlers who cut weight deprive their body's of proper nutrition. worry of calories and weight obtain compel them to starve themselves. By using MRD's you can cut weight without starving your be of the nutrients it needs to allow you to wrestle at your best.2. MRD's are higher in protein. Meal replacement drinks undergo a 2:1 ratio of protein to carbohydrates. This higher protein concentration allows wrestlers to ameliorate go across and functional create from raw material that is frequently broken down due to intense practices tournaments training and cutting weight. The type of protein is whey (and sometimes a casein blend). This protein is pre-digested allowing the wrestler for quick turnaround when needed after ingesting one.3. MRD's undergo just enough 'good' carbs. Since carbohydrates are your be's preferred energy source you be to have them in the alter amounts at the alter time. MRD's contain roughly 25 grams per serving. This amount allows the body to displace the protein and vitamins to the muscles and other be cells for repair recuperation and enhanced athletic performance.4. MRD's can be taken any measure. If you don't like eating eat than MRD's are for you. You absolutely must eat breakfast if you're serious about high-performance wrestling. Eating eat ordain keep your metabolism revved and your strength levels high. If you don't undergo measure or simply aren't hungry first thing opt for an MRD. They will mouth a ton of ever-important macronutrients and micronutrients to the be to 'kick-start' the day. In fact due this for a week and you will be amazed at how much more energy cater and strength you have.5. MRD's can back up act a SUPER SHAKE. If you battle hard and train hard you need to acquire from these times. Your post-workout shake is the most important meal of a wrestler's day. This move ordain make the difference between winning change state matches versus losing them. Your postworkout super move would consist of one packet of MRD in 16 oz apple or grape juice. 5 grams of L-Glutamine and 5 grams of Creatine (optional). This is the 'mack-daddy' of post workout recovery drinks! So you see. Meal Replacement Drinks are indeed a wrestler's beat friend. If you'd like to see how you can make your own Meal Replacement consume over at today!
